Drug Agents Bust Four Meth Labs During Past Week

Drug agents with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Crime Suppression Unit were kept busy during the past week, working the scenes of four different makeshift methamphetamine laboratories.

On Saturday, July 3, agents were summoned to Tom Lane in Ethridge where a citizen stumbled upon a meth lab and marijuana plants. Agents indicate the marijuana plants were seized and destroyed, and that Hazmat contractors were summoned to dispose of all hazardous chemicals.

On Sunday, July 4, agents were notified that a passerby had noticed components of a meth lab concealed inside a drainage culvert at Walmart on North Locust Avenue. Police officers, the Lawrenceburg Fire Department Hazmat Team and contractors with the Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force conducted cleanup of the site.

Wednesday, July 7, agents responded to 370 North Old Military Road in Summertown, where they had received information regarding a possible meth lab. A search of the woods behind the residence yielded results.

Approximately 200 yards behind the home agents report finding a green military bag that contained components of a meth lab, including:  acid, lithium batteries, tubing, a gas generator, and other items. Members of the Summertown Fire Department assisted with the operation and Hazmat contractors were summoned to properly dispose of the chemicals.

On the same day agents were dispatched to what appeared to be the remains of a meth lab at 2705 Highway 43 North in Lawrenceburg. Agents report finding a “shake bottle” and a Mason jar “used to manufacture meth.” The items were seized and turned over to hazmat contractors for disposal.
