Son Arrested For Beating Driving Father

The son of an Indiana man was arrested late Friday after another motorist reported a domestic assault that was occurring inside a northbound vehicle.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report they received the “Be On the Look Out” alert around 4:30 Friday afternoon, regarding a hunter green color van bearing Indiana license plates. The motorist had reported that the van was northbound on U.S. Highway 43, and that a fight appeared to be occurring inside the van, between the driver and a passenger.

When they spotted the vehicle, deputies report the fight was still on-going. They stopped the vehicle at the Dooley Road intersection in Ethridge. They report that the forty-eight-year-old driver had a knot beneath one eye, and that blood was running out of both ears.

The man told deputies that he had been driving for two hours to pick up his son, age 16. from a family reunion. He indicated that the teen’s sister had left him at the family reunion “because he was drunk.”

The father told deputies that he had scolded his son for being drunk, and that it was at this point that his son began hitting him in the face while they were traveling.

As a result of the investigation the teen was taken into custody on charges of domestic assault and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. He is scheduled to answer the charge through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on September 11, 2008.
