Lawrence County’s New Green Machine To Be Unveiled At Courthouse All-Star Day   Lawrenceburg Mayor Keith Durham and Lawrence County Executive Paul Rosson

Lawrenceburg Mayor Keith Durham and Lawrence County Executive Paul Rosson.

Lawrence County Government will recognize local all-star baseball and softball teams bound for regional and state tournaments, during a fun day at the Courthouse Friday.

County officials and employees are inviting all Lawrence County baseball and softball teams which have won their league championships to the event on Friday starting at 12 Noon. The event will be a send-off for teams which are headed to post season play, either at regional or state tournaments.  A hotdog lunch will be served on the courthouse lawn.

As part of All-Star Day, the county will announce plans for a new segment of its Cleanup Lawrence County program. The Green Machine will be the name of a series of youth sporting teams whose players will wear a new logo aimed at increasing public awareness about the importance of recycling.  The team sponsorships are a new leg of the Cleanup Lawrence County Program, an aggressive effort the county launched several months ago to encourage people to recycle more and to take pride in the community and its appearance.

According to County Executive Paul Rosson, the county is seeing dramatic increases in recycling and cleanup efforts have been widely successful.  Since the program’s start, more than 100 tons of litter and debris have been picked up county-wide. “Young people are our future in so many ways, but especially in taking care of our resources,” Rosson said. “The Green Machine is an effort to get the recycling theme to the public in a fun way, while showing support for our youth.”

In keeping with the sports theme, County Executive Paul Rosson has challenged Lawrenceburg Mayor Keith Durham to a “battle of the bats” at Bobby Brewer Park this weekend.

Citizens who would like to report roadsides which need litter pickup attention may call the County Executive’s office at 762-7700.
