Heavy Rainfall Received During First Week Of July

The first week of July brought heavy rainfall to many counties, a few spots in Middle Tennessee saw rainfall exceed 9 inches between the morning of July 2nd and the morning of July 7th.

Many others saw between 6 and 9 inches of rainfall.

The heaviest rains generally fell along and east of the I-65 corridor as well as in the Northwest around Clarksville.

Smith County, East of Nashville saw the greatest rainfall amounts with one location in Elmwood receiving 9.85 inches.

Quite a few observing stations from Bedford County also reported high rainfall totals, as much as 8.84 inches.

Other significant rainfall totals during this time period included 9.46 inches at Statesville, 8.20 inches in Fentress County.

Putnam County received 7.65 inches

Cumberland County, 7.36 inches.

Lawrence County in the Dunn Community received 7.29 inches.

Jackson County, 7.20 inches.

Marshall County near Cornersville, 6.93 inches.

Montgomery County, 6.92 inches.

East Central Giles County, 6.80 inches.

To put these rain totals in perspective you should know that most of these places typically only receive half of these amounts for the entire month of July.

The weather system that produced all the heavy rains has now moved east and hopefully the mid state will get a chance to dry out a little over the next few days.
