Dogs Left In Car Sparks Confrontation

Dogs being left inside a vehicle on a hot parking lot Sunday sparked a confrontation between the owner and concerned citizens.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to the parking lot of Dollar Tree on North Locust Avenue around 4:30 p.m. They spoke with both the dogs’ owner and the concerned couple.

The dog owner told officers she had gone inside the store for only a few minutes to shop, and returned to her car to be confronted by a woman who was upset that the dogs had been closed inside the vehicle.

She told officers that the woman was yelling at her about the dogs being left inside with no water, and said that she “got in her face.”

The concerned couple, a husband and wife, reported they saw the dogs inside the vehicle when they arrived at the business. The husband reported he went inside the store in search of the owner, notifying store personnel of the situation.

The wife stated she had stood beside the vehicle to monitor the welfare of the dogs. The couple indicated they had sat inside their car until the owner returned. When she asked her about the dogs, she said the woman began cursing and told her to leave.

The matter currently remains under investigation.
