Perp Attempts To Obtain Drugs Using Child’s Identity

Lawrence County law enforcement officials opened an official investigation last week after a Griffin Road resident learned that someone had attempted to obtain drugs illegally, using her young son’s identity.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated the investigation around 3:30 Friday afternoon. The mother of the nine-year-old victim told deputies she had received a letter from TennCare, stating that they would be unable to pay for the drug Oxycodone for her son. They also indicated there was an error, that the submitted prescription listed his age as an adult.

The mother stated that she called TennCare to make a complaint. They told her that someone had used her son’s medical care plan in order to obtain a prescription, then attempted to use it a second time in order to acquire the drug.

The mother told deputies that she had no idea who could have perpetrated the crime.

The matter has been turned over for further scrutiny by the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
