Suspect In Greenhill Water District Burglary Captured In Saint Joseph

A Leoma man suspected of burglarizing the offices of Greenhill Water District in neighboring Lauderdale County, Alabama was captured at a Saint Joseph residence Monday morning.

A Saint Joseph man reported to authorities that he had been notified by Lauderdale County officials of the crime. They told him that the suspect had stolen cameras and motion sensors then fled on foot, carrying a shotgun.

The caller told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that he had been concerned for the safety of his tenant at 3009 Cowpen Road and had called to warn her to keep her doors locked.

When he called, he said the tenant told him that the suspect was inside her home.

Sheriff’s department officials made their way to the home and took into custody Christopher Scott Barth, age 28, of 2462 U.S. Highway 43 South, Leoma.

He was issued charges of theft and burglary, with a preliminary appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court scheduled for August 12, 2013.

Barth faces charges in Lauderdale County, as well.
