Estranged Husband Accused Of Assaulting Wife

A woman reported to law enforcement officials overnight Wednesday that her estranged husband had stolen her truck, assaulted her, then stole her truck a second time.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the home on Ridge Lane to initiate an investigation shortly after 12:00 a.m. Thursday. The forty-four-year-old female resident reported her husband, with whom she has not lived for the past two years, had shown up at her home earlier in the evening in an intoxicated state. She stated that when she refused to allow him entrance into her home, he took her truck and left for approximately thirty minutes.

When he returned to her home, the victim reports that her husband entered without her consent then came into her bedroom and began choking her and striking her with his fists. She also reported that he ripped her clothing off during the struggle.

The victim indicated that she fought back, scratching him several times. When she threatened to “call the cops,” she reports that he snatched her cell phone and broke it. Afterwards he got up, went outside, and left once again in her truck.

The victim told deputies that she was able to call for assistance by using a second cell phone which she had hidden from him.

The matter remains under investigation at the present time by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
