Burglar Crashes Through Doors To Steal Beer

Authorities report that a burglar crashed through the doors of a closed convenience store in the Dunn Community in the early hours Thursday in order to steal beer.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers were dispatched to Kountry Kupboard, 2339 Highway 43 South, around 1:00 a.m. to investigate the sounding of a burglar alarm.

When they arrived, officers report finding that the front door frame was bent and the glass broken out of both panels. Owners Bill and Priscilla Porter, they report, had also arrived on the scene.

A sweep of the building revealed no one was inside. After reviewing video surveillance of the crime, owners were able to offer an identity for the perpetrator.

Surveillance revealed that the man had crashed his 1992 Ford Tempo through the doors, backed up, exited the car, walked to a cooler, took a 12-pack of Natural Ice Beer, then walked back to his car and left.

Officers made their way to the 19 Fisher Hollow Road home of thirty-two-year-old Robert Roy Hughes. After confronting Hughes about the crime, officers report he offered a confession. As a result Hughes was transported to the Lawrence County Jail where he was booked under charges of burglary, theft and vandalism.

Hughes remained incarcerated at the facility in lieu of a bond of $60,250.00. He is scheduled for an initial appearance through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on Friday, August 7, 2009.
