Work-Release Escapee Suspected Of Stealing Car From Lot
Sightings reported in Chester County
An inmate who escaped from a work-release detail at the Lawrence County Landfill on Monday and is suspected of stealing a car from a local lot, has allegedly been sighted in Chester County.
On Monday Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown issued a plea for public assistance after thirty-five year old Jason Williams Kirk allegedly stole a landfill employee’s truck and fled.
Members of the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to investigate a stolen vehicle at Sandrell’s Used Cars early Tuesday. Business officials said a cobalt blue, 2014 Ford Mustang had been stolen overnight.
According to a press release updating the investigation that was issued Wednesday, officers suspected that Kirk might have been involved in the theft. A review of security footage showed a white male breaking into the business the previous night. While checking the premises they found cans of Beanie Weenies behind the car lot’s dumpster. They report that, “Jason Kirk had been known to hoard canned foods such as this he retrieved from the landfill.”
The truck stolen from the landfill was located Tuesday afternoon, abandoned at Heritage Automotive. Authorities report, “Heritage Automotive is in close proximity to Sandrell’s Used Cars and investigators determined Jason Kirk to be responsible for both thefts.”
Kirk had been incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center after he and several others were transferred from Chester County a few months ago. Authorities report that he is believed to have returned to that area, as officials in that county confirmed sightings of Kirk driving a dark colored Ford Mustang. They said that he could possibly be headed to Madison County.
Kirk is considered to be a non-violent offender. His past offenses included crimes such as theft, evading arrest, reckless endangerment and parole violations.
Sheriff’s department investigators urge, “Anyone with information regarding this person, please contact your local law enforcement, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department at 931-762-3626, or the department’s Criminal Investigation Division directly at 931-762-1608.
