Clerk Discovers Phony Money At Check Out

An alert clerk discovered that money she was about to accept as payment during a transaction Tuesday, was actually counterfeit.

Officials with Walmart summoned Lawrenceburg Police Officers to the North Locust Avenue location at 7:20 p.m. They indicated that a fifty-four-year-old resident of Linden had attempted to pay for a purchase using a counterfeit $100 bill.

The woman was making the purchase at the pharmacy counter when the clerk noticed that the bill wasn’t legitimate. She refused to accept the counterfeit bill and quickly notified her superiors.

While speaking with officers the Linden resident indicated she had been unaware the bill was counterfeit, but that she could not recall where she had obtained it.

The bill was seized into evidence. At the current time the matter remains under investigation.
