Indictment returned in May kidnapping, rape case

Lawrenceburg Now

An indictment has been issued against a Lawrenceburg man in relation to a kidnapping/rape arrest that was made in mid-May.

The suspect, twenty-seven-year-old James Alexander Shoumake, was arrested on charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, and rape after a female victim placed a call for assistance.

On Thursday a Lawrence County Grand Jury issued an indictment against Shoumake, charging him with unlawful dissemination of photos and/or videos; more specifically photography in violation of privacy.

22nd Judicial District Attorney Brent Cooper released information Friday, alerting the public to the fact that they are seeking any evidence related to the case. A judicial order for the confiscation of any videos and photos related to the case has been issued.

They are asking that anyone who might have received photos or videos related to the incident, email a copy to Investigator Jeff Dunn at sjdunn@tndagc.org. Once they are emailed, they should immediately be deleted. Cooper indicated that individuals who forward the material to them will not face charges.
