Fence At Car Lot Damaged During Vehicle Theft

Thousands of dollars worth of damage were reported at a Lawrenceburg car lot Friday when owners discovered that a vehicle had been stolen overnight.

According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department officers were dispatched to Orton’s Used Cars, 2435 North Locust Avenue, shortly before 8:30 Friday morning. Employees reported that someone had stolen a vehicle, damaging a fence in order to do so.

Officers report that approximately 100 feet of chain link fence was lying on the ground. They said it appeared that the thief had used the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee to break out of the storage lot.

Reports show that the culprit accelerated for around fifty feet and drove through and over the gates and fencing. Both the front and rear bumpers came loose during the crime.

While the vehicle had an estimated value of $1,000, owners estimated that damages to the fence would total around $4,000.
