Resident Charged With Leaving Accident Scene

A Lawrenceburg man who was reportedly driving without a license was arrested Sunday after allegedly becoming involved in an automobile crash, then fleeing the scene.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to investigate the crash at the May Street/Kramer Avenue intersection shortly before 5:30 p.m. They report that one of the drivers had fled prior to their arrival.

During a quick search of the surrounding areas, officers report locating the driver, twenty-four-year-old Lucio Morales Perez, 24, of 906 Smith Avenue, hiding behind a nearby dumpster.

When they questioned Perez, officers indicate he admitted he had been driving the 2001 Ford F-150 involved in the crash, as well as the fact that he possessed no driver license and that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Due to his condition at the time of his arrest, officers indicate Perez was unable to perform field sobriety tests. He did consent to a blood alcohol test, however. He was transported to Crockett Hospital to undergo the test, then to the Lawrence County Jail.

Perez was booked under charges of driving without a required driver license, first offense DUI, and leaving the scene of an accident. He is scheduled for an initial appearance through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 6, 2009.
