Lawrence Resident Victim Of Identity Theft

A local man reported to authorities Monday that his identity had been fraudulently used to obtain an internet loan.

The victim, age 61, reported that he had received a call from a collection agency, indicating that he was in arrears on his loan payments. The agency said that he had taken out a loan via the internet in August of 2009, and that he owed them $1,500.

The victim reported to deputies that he had never obtained a loan by internet. The agency informed him that the individual impersonating him had used his Social Security number while listing an address of Jacksonville, Florida.

The matter currently remains under investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
