Deputies Say False Report Prevented Them From Assisting In Dangerous Calls

A Leoma man was charged with filing a false police report during the weekend when he faked illnesses that prevented deputies from responding to dangerous calls.

Deputies had answered a call regarding an unwanted person at a residence on Rabbit Trail Road. Jonathan Wade Gooch, age 24, of Marks Branch Road was at the home and was arrested on some outstanding warrants.

During transport deputies report Gooch complained about feeling ill. They said he vomited in the back of the patrol car more than once, and told them that he was having a seizure. Although Gooch told deputies he was having trouble breathing, they said he exhibited no physical signs.

Gooch was transported to Crockett Hospital for evaluation. After 2 ½ hours of tests, doctors reported they could find nothing medically wrong with Gooch and released him without restrictions or follow-up.

Deputies report that, “During this time officers with the department were assisting with victims throughout the county on calls of assault, domestic violence, and attempted murder from shots fired, as well as other violent crimes against persons.

Officers were hindered with delayed response times and were unable to answer some calls. Due to Gooch’s behavior, officers could not leave him unattended.”

Gooch was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center on various outstanding warrants as well as charges of filing a false police report.
