Arrest Made In Theft From Railroad Tracks

A man was taken into custody on Sunday after concerned residents reported a truck was being driven along the railroad tracks in Summertown.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were en route to the Holloway Street/Eagle Ridge Road intersection when they report spotting the suspect vehicle at a market.

When they approached the green Ford Ranger to speak with the driver they report they could see railroad signs and other track parts in the bed of the truck. The driver, Cameron Lee Howard, age 35, of 215 Davis Street, Summertown admitted that he had retrieved the items from the tracks.

A representative of Southern Railroad Service of Mount Pleasant responded to the scene. He inspected the items and determined that they were company property.

Howard was arrested on charges of theft of property and criminal trespassing and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. He will answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 6, 2013.
