Lost Teen Returns Home Safely

A young teenager was returned home safely in the wake of a search and rescue operation that continued throughout the night Saturday, after having become lost for more than twelve hours and spending the night in the woods.

The juvenile, age 14, reportedly lost his bearings Saturday afternoon while walking on family property on C-C Road in the Center area, adjacent to Laurel Hill Wilderness Preserve.

Family members reported they searched the area after the teen failed to return home. They were unable to locate him and subsequently placed a call for assistance.

A full-scale search was put into action after nightfall. The search was headed up by members of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Search and Rescue dog team and members of both the Henryville and West End Fire Departments. The search continued throughout the night.

Around 6:00 Sunday morning, officials report the teen was located approximately two miles from the home. He was said to be unharmed and was quickly returned to his family.
