DUI charge results from Sunday crash

Lawrenceburg Now

A crash that occurred in the Dunn community early Sunday resulted in DUI charges being issued against a Petersburg, Tennessee resident.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department answered the 3:02 a.m. call to Highway 43 South, near Kountry Kupboard. They arrived to find a single vehicle accident involving a 2003 Jeep Wrangler. The driver approached, telling the reporting officer that his female passenger was beside the crashed vehicle and needed help.

The officer noted that the victim, identified as Shelby L. Logan, age 25, was lying on the ground, but was breathing and moving around. Once members of the Lawrence County Ambulance Service arrived, they transported her to Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Lawrenceburg.

The driver, identified as Matthew Jason Callender, 23, failed to pass field sobriety tests that were administered. He said that he had been consuming alcohol at around midnight. He was taken to the hospital for a blood alcohol test. Since he maintained that he had not been seriously injured, he was transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

Callender was incarcerated on a charge of DUI. He is scheduled to answer the charge in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 2, 2018.
