City Employees Moving Down The List On Paving Projects

Although temperatures have soared in past days, City of Lawrenceburg Streets Manager Jerry Smith told city leaders Thursday that his department is continuing to make progress as far as paving of city streets is concerned.

Smith gave an overview of work recently undertaken by his department to members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council during a business meeting Thursday morning. Smith indicated that his employees are making great strides in their work.

A list of streets in need of repaving has been compiled, and Smith’s department is working to repave as many as possible during the 2010 paving season.

Although he has received many inquiries regarding paving in the areas of Admiral Circle and Crowder Field, Smith said these areas have been put on hold for the time being.

Smith said grant funds may be available to help defer the cost of paving in these areas, and officials are simply awaiting word on whether their application for grant funds will be approved.

Once they receive word on the grant funds, Smith said they will begin paving in the Crowder Field area, then move on to the Admiral Circle area.

The much more complex Springer Road repaving project planned for this summer, Smith said, will take approximately two weeks to complete. He will be assisted in that project by County Road Commissioner Donnie Joe Brown and his department. The project will require that the road be milled, the debris removed, then repaved. Brown said traffic will have to be diverted during the project, but that the paving will be done with as little inconvenience to drivers as possible.
