Registered Sex Offender Arrested For Being Too Close To Youngsters

   A Lawrenceburg man who is a registered sex offender was arrested late last week when he was found to be in too close proximity to a group of children.

   According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department, the man was spotted by a police officer on patrol in the area of the Hope Springs Park, adjacent to Shoal Creek.

   The officer reports he noticed the man walking toward the creek, and had previous knowledge that the man was a registered sex offender. As such, the man is prohibited from entering a public area such as a city park.

   The officer reports that he followed the man, making contact with him near the creek. He reports that he was in close proximity to several children who were swimming.

   As a result of the incident, Johnny Dwain Nix, 35, of 509 Victor Street, as arrested on charges of violation of the sex offender registry law. Nix was subsequently transported to the Lawrence County Jail for booking.

   Nix is scheduled to answer the charge through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 8, 2009.
