Maury Bumps Lawrence From Top Of Unemployment List

   Maury County saw a considerable jump in it’s unemployment rate during the Month of May, bumping Lawrence from the top of the county-by-county unemployment roll.

   According to information released through the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Maury County saw an increase from the April rate of 5.3, to 8.5% in May. Lawrence County, which had topped the roll, dropped to second. Lawrence County’s rate remained constant at 7.5%.

   Out of Lawrence County’s 16,450 labor force, officials report that 15,210 individuals were employed, while 1,240 were unemployed.

   Knox County registered the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 3.1%, up from 3.0 in April. A 0.3% increase was seen statewide at 4.7%, up from 4.4% in April.

   Neighboring Wayne County experienced an increase from 6.4 to 6.9%, while Giles saw a 0.4% increase, from 5.6 to 6.0%.
