Young Summertown Resident Hit By Car

A young Summertown resident reportedly darted in front of a vehicle Thursday afternoon, sustaining critical injuries.

According to Mike Browning, Public Information Officer with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, five-year-old Michelle Looker apparently darted into the path of a vehicle driven by a seventeen-year-old driver. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Railroad Bed Pike.

Browning indicates that the youngster was apparently attempting to retrieve a turtle from the roadway.

Looker was airlifted to the Trauma Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where she underwent surgery Thursday night. Friday morning hospital officials reported Looker was in critical but stable condition.

Browning pointed out that the matter remains under investigation through THP’s Critical Incident Response Team. At the present time, however, he says it appears there was no wrong-doing on the part of the young driver.
