The U.S Department of Education has awarded Lawrence County schools with a $2.25 million grant.

The grant will help kids from birth to 5th grade to provide new summer learning, summer camps for up to to 45 students out of the 8 elementary schools, keep each of the school libraries open for 6 weeks during the summer, and additional access to reading materials during the school year.

This grant will also help students gain access to the myON which is a digital library of 6,000 books where students can download up to 20 books at a time.

Grant funding will also go towards mobile hot spots for areas in the county that remain without internet access, as well as providing stem resources to daycares, preschools, and head start programs.
