Wheel Thefts Reported At Car Lots

Law enforcement officials have been forced to step up preventative patrol measures since a number of area car dealers have reported wheels being stolen off vehicles offered for sale on their lots.

One such incident was reported through the Lawrenceburg Police Department in recent days. Employee Fred Doerflinger reported to Lawrenceburg Police Officers that they had discovered that four tires and wheels had been removed from a green, 2001 Ford Windstar van at Orton’s Used Cars, located at 2394 North Locust Avenue. The perpetrator had reportedly used a jack to lift the vehicle, removed the wheels, then set the vehicle down on wooden posts. Loss in that case was estimated to be $800.

A similar incident was reported just two days later at nearby Auto Mart II, 2398 North Locust Avenue. There, owner Carl Rowden reported, someone had jacked up a silver, 2001 P.T. Cruiser and, likewise removed the wheels and tires. That vehicle was found supported by wooden boards. Loss there was estimated to be $500.

Anyone who has information that might assist detectives in their investigation into the crimes is urged to contact the Lawrenceburg Police Department at 762-2276.
