Brother Arrested For Giving False Information

A West Point man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly lied to police officers who were attempting to serve warrants on his brother.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report they made their way to apartments on Glendale Road in Loretto Wednesday afternoon where they spotted a resident on whom they had two outstanding warrants.

They report the man was standing outside with a second man. When they spotted the police car, deputies report the men “ran inside an apartment.”

Deputies made entry to the apartment and report two men were sitting on a couch in the living room. When they inquired about the whereabouts of David Byrd, they report his brother, thirty-three-year-old Eric Byrd, stated he was in the hospital.

Eric Byrd told deputies his brother had been involved in a car crash the previous day and was hospitalized for injuries he sustained. He said that his mother had then asked him (Eric) to “watch” the apartment while she was out of town.

Deputies report they conducted a search of the premises, locating David Byrd hiding in an upstairs bedroom closet. He was arrested on the outstanding warrants and transported to the Lawrence County Jail without incident.

In addition, deputies report Eric Byrd was arrested on charges of giving false information to officers. He, too, was transported to the jail. He is required to answer the charge through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on July 12, 2010.
