Pair Cited After Trying To Eat The Evidence

Two Lawrenceburg men were cited on drug charges Monday evening after allegedly attempting to eat the evidence before it could be collected.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department indicate that charges of simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence were issued against Anthony Drew Roberts, 19, of 165 East Beasley Road, while charges of possession of Schedule III narcotics and tampering with evidence were issued against Marty Eugene Mashburn, 23, of 829 North Mahr Avenue, in the wake of a traffic stop around 7:20 p.m.

Officers report initiating the traffic stop along North Military Avenue after noting there was no license plate visibly displayed on the Jeep Wrangler, and that the occupants were not wearing seat belts.

When he approached the driver’s side, the reporting officer reports he noticed the passenger vigorously chewing a substance and attempting to swallow it. He reports that he approached the young man, Mashburn, and asked what he was doing, but that he continued chewing. The officer indicated that Mashburn then opened his mouth and threw several green and white items. The officer then grabbed Mashburn and reports that he “tried to prevent him from swallowing more of the items for his own safety.”

Mashburn reportedly told the officer that he was eating Lortab tablets that the driver, Roberts, had given him. Reports show that Roberts admitted he had marijuana and a pipe in his possession along with several more Lortab pills. He allegedly stated that he had given the pills to Mashburn to dispose of.

Officers seized Lortab pills along with pieces of pills, marijuana and a pipe. Citations were then issued against both, requiring that they answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on August 8, 2009.
