Commissioners Outline New Roadblock Regulations

Members of the City of Lawrenceburg’s governing board have outlined new guidelines under which fundraising roadblocks may be held within the city limits.

Although city statutes previously required that anyone wishing to hold a fundraising roadblock obtain a permit through the Lawrenceburg Police Department, commissioners felt that the guidelines needed more specific requirements in order to ensure the safety of participants.

City ordinances previously limited roadblocks to particular intersections within the city. Commissioners have specified that the permit must state the time of the roadblock as well as the intersections that will be utilized.

   Changes include the following requirements:

*All participants must wear reflective traffic safety vests, to be supplied by the applicant.

*No more than four participants may be in the roadway at any given time.

*All participants must be sixteen years of age or older.

*Organizations wishing to host such a roadblock must be located inside the Lawrenceburg City Limits.

*The organization must display signage bearing the name and purpose of the roadblock, in lettering large enough to be read by passing motorists.

*Not more than one organization may hold a roadblock on any given day.

*No city employee, vehicles or equipment may be involved in a roadblock.
