Watts Arraigned In Abuse/Neglect Case
A Mahr Avenue resident stood for arraignment Monday on charges of child abuse and neglect as the result of a recent child rape investigation.
Indictments were returned by a Lawrence County Grand Jury last month against 525 Mahr Avenue residents Melvin Watts, Jr., 32, and Amanda Kay Watts, 35. The indictments were the result of a lengthy investigation against the couple regarding crimes against two children in the home.
Melvin Watts was indicted on charges of aggravated sexual battery and rape of a child, while Amanda Watts was indicted on charges of child abuse and neglect.
Amanda Watts appeared in Lawrence County Circuit Court Monday morning where she was arraigned on the charges. She is next scheduled to appear in circuit court on Monday, August 9, 2010.
