Local Drug Agents Make Arrests

Local drug agents made several arrests in recent days, including the apprehension of a pharmacy technician who allegedly stole, then sold narcotics and a woman accused of forging numerous prescriptions.

In a press release issued last week, agents with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Crime Suppression Unit report they took into custody June 9, a pharmacy technician who was employed through CVS Pharmacy on North Locust Avenue.

Agents were contacted by a CVS Investigator who indicated pills were being stolen by an employee at the Lawrenceburg location. They report that pharmacy tech Laura McConnell confessed to stealing Lortab pills on several occasions, then selling them. She told investigators that her husband, Robert McConnell had knowledge of her actions and had assisted her in selling the pills. As a result, charges were also brought against Robert McConnell.

Laura McConnell was arrested on five counts of theft, five counts of sale of Schedule III narcotics, and possession of Schedule III narcotics for the purpose of resale. Robert McConnell was charged with five counts of criminal responsibility and five counts of sale of Schedule III narcotics.

In a second case, agents report a fraud investigation lead to the issuances of warrants against resident Denise Brashears. They allege that Brashears forged and passed at local pharmacies a total of seventeen prescriptions during a seven month period.

Although the warrants have been obtained, agents report they have been unable to locate Brashears. They ask that anyone who has knowledge of her whereabouts contact them at 762-1608.
