J. Mack Chandler Releases A Statement

Democrat nominee for county executive J. Mack Chandler released the following statement in response to defeated incumbent Paul Rosson’s decision to run in the August election as a write-in candidate:

“In a fair and open primary election last month I defeated Paul Rosson by a 500-vote margin. He went on the radio that night and conceded the nomination, pledged his support to me, and asked his supporters to support my candidacy in the August election. Mr. Rosson called me personally the next day and expressed the same support.

“When the notion of a write-in campaign came up, the Democrat party leadership issued a statement supporting the winner of the primary election and calling the write-in idea a loophole in the law.

Now Mr. Rosson seeks to re-enter the race with untrue statements critical of the other candidates’ qualifications. I presented my qualifications in the primary campaign and a large majority of the voters chose me over his track record of wasteful spending.

“But the main point I want to make is summed up in one simple question: Is this fair? I ask each voter to consider this question when they cast their vote in the August election.”
