Hostage Situation Resolved At CVS

Law enforcement officials were able to quickly resolve a hostage situation at a local pharmacy Thursday afternoon.

A press release issued through the Lawrenceburg Police Department indicates that the initial call was to Walmart on North Locust Avenue where security personnel reported a shoplifter was inside a bathroom, armed with a handgun. He was later identified as Lawrenceburg resident Robert Chad Dillon, age 36.

Officials indicate that while officers were en route Dillon left in a maroon Ford Explorer. They made contact with the vehicle a short time later and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however they report that Dillon refused to stop.

The press release indicates that officers followed Dillon as he drove along North Locust Avenue at a speed of around 20 miles per hour. When he reached the Locust/East Gaines Street intersection Dillon pulled into the parking lot at CVS Pharmacy. He then exited his vehicle and ran inside.

Officers indicate that Dillon, wielding a loaded handgun, demanded drugs from the pharmacist. Police officers entered the store at that point and found Dillon behind the pharmacy counter with the gun in-hand.

Officers report that several employees and customers were inside the business when Dillon entered. They were all able to exit the store without injury.

Dillon was engaged in a standoff with officers for more than an hour. Officers were able to disarm him at around 5:45 p.m. and take him into custody. He was arrested on a charge of aggravated robbery. Several additional charges are pending.

Dillon was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center without bond. He has been scheduled an appearance in General Sessions Court on September 4, 2014.

Several local emergency agencies responded to the scene to offer assistance.  Although assistance had been requested from the Maury County SWAT team Dillon was apprehended prior to their arrival.

Officials report that both officers and hostages escaped the incident without injury.
