Property Owner Escapes Injury After Confronting Would-Be Thief

A Summertown man narrowly escaped being struck by a vehicle on Monday while confronting an individual who was attempting to steal his property.

Joseph Floyd Boshers, age 34, of Mt. Pleasant was arrested Tuesday in connection with a crime that had occurred at a property on Barnesville Road.

The property owner reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that he had confronted a man on Monday when he caught him attempting to steal his hay rake. He told deputies that when the man fled the scene, he narrowly missed striking him with his vehicle.

Department detectives report that they have gathered evidence linking Boshers to a number of thefts that had recently occurred on the same property.

Boshers was taken into custody on Tuesday and booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, criminal trespassing, and theft over $1,000.

Boshers was incarcerated in lieu of a $12,000 bond.
