Residents Report Prowlers Entered Their Homes

Residents in Leoma and Loretto recently reported separate incidents during which prowlers entered their homes while they were sleeping.

The first incident was reported last week at a home on Princess Court in Loretto. The victim, age 49, reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies that she had been sleeping on her couch at around 1:20 a.m. when she looked towards her door and saw a man standing inside her living room.

The victim said that she got up and tried to run away, but that the man pushed her onto the floor, then ran out the door. She said he ran east from the residence, heading toward Highway 43.

The victim described the intruder as a white male, approximately six feet tall, with dark curly hair. At the time, she said he was dressed in a dark shirt and blue jeans.

The victim sustained no injuries during the incident. At the time it occurred, she said the front door had been unlocked.

A resident of Leoma Road in Leoma told deputies that her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan Keith Wells, age 30, had entered her home without permission at around 3:30 Monday morning. She stated that she, her boyfriend, and her children had been asleep when Wells entered her bedroom, turned on the light, and began yelling at her.

The victim reported that she asked Wells to leave before her awakened her children. She said she was able to get him outside and lock the door but that he began to yell, hit the door, and repeatedly rang the doorbell. She told deputies that he began yelling for her boyfriend to come outside and made threats to harm him.

The victim said that Wells had come to her home around 10:00 the previous evening and she had asked him to leave at that time, as well.

Deputies note that when they arrived at the home Wells was walking toward his vehicle in the driveway. He told them that he had stopped to give his ex-girlfriend a guitar.

Wells was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of domestic assault.
