Bid awarded for second phase of Springer Road project

Lawrenceburg leaders have awarded the bid for Phase Two of the Springer Road rehabilitation project and expect construction to get underway in the coming weeks.

The second half of the project includes work on two sections of the roadway. One section runs from East Gaines Street to First Street, the second Weakley Creek Road to Claymar Avenue. The East Gaines/First Street segment primarily involves resurfacing of the roadway and the replacement of a tile.

The Weakley Creek/Claymar section is more involved, requiring work similar to that done during Phase One last year. It will require that utilities be relocated and the roadway rebuilt. The roadway is to be widened in all four directions at the Weakley Creek Road intersection to accommodate turn lanes. New traffic signals will also be installed.

During a meeting of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council Thursday morning, members approved a resolution, awarding the bid for the project to Rogers Group. Rogers Group performed the work during Phase One and is the only company that submitted a bid for Phase Two.

The budget estimate for the project was $2,300,063.09 with a contingency budget of $318,000. Council members voted to accept the Rogers Group bid of $2,133,882.

Officials expect to hold a pre-construction meeting in the coming week. They indicate that the portion of the project near Lawrence County High School is scheduled to be completed before the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year in August.
