Shots Fired At Cherokee Camp

Police officers were dispatched to initiate an investigation into shots being fired in the area of the local Cherokee Camp in Leoma Wednesday.

Residents James and Elaine Winchester told Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies responding to the location on Idaho Road that they had been awakened around 6:00 a.m. by the sound of someone pulling into the camp. Both reported that while getting dressed, they heard two shots fired in close proximity.

Both Winchesters indicated they were unable to get a good look at the vehicle or the occupants. They said the vehicle was a small truck, light blue in color.

The couple said they had spoken with an investigator with the department who had advised them to also file a report regarding the theft of a 4x6 metal trailer from the property. They said the trailer, valued at $1,000, had been missing since the previous Saturday.
