Drowning Results In Toddler’s Death

Officials have confirmed that a Lawrenceburg toddler who was pulled from a pond into which he had stumbled Friday morning has died.

Although few details have been released, the twenty-one-month-old had reportedly been left in the care of a relative at a home on Mattoxtown Road when the accident occurred.

Authorities with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department reported that the boy had been playing around a swing set, and shortly afterwards his babysitter discovered that he was missing.

It was approximately fifteen minutes later, authorities said, before the toddler was found in a pond in a nearby cornfield. He was quickly transported to Crockett Hospital for initial medical treatment, then subsequently airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he later perished.

No additional information is being released at the present time.
