State Line Market Is Target Of Porn Bust

Authorities report that a market located at the Tennessee/Alabama state line was the target of an investigation conducted late last week that resulted in the owner being cited for failing to properly display pornographic materials.

Chief Deputy Terry Beecham with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department indicates that the operation was conducted on Friday at State Line Market.

The citation indicates that the owner “had on display pornographic material that was less than 5 ½ feet from the floor (as required by state law), and it showed sexual activity. No steps were taken to prevent minors from viewing this material.”

Beecham indicated that some hundreds of magazines and sexually explicit videos were confiscated as a result of the operation. The operation was undertaken, he indicated, as the result of complaints lodged by residents of the South Lawrence area.

The owner of the business will be required to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on July 14, 2008, where he will answer charges of display for sale or rental of material harmful to minors.
