Businesses Report Vandalism Incidents

Vandals targeted a number of area businesses last weekend, prompting law enforcement officials to initiate investigations.

The first incident was reported at Plowboy Produce, 469 South Brace Road, Ethridge. Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department indicate that someone shot a single hole through two sheets of tin on the roof of the business. Damages were estimated to total $46.00.

Loretto Telephone Company representative Nick Passarella told deputies Saturday that vandals had targeted company property. Passarella stated that someone had used a firearm to shoot two cable pedestals.. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies report that several spent 12 gauge Winchester rounds were found at the scene, at 593 Bluff Road, near More Cutoff in West Point. The cables, deputies reported, were completely severed at ground level. Passarella reported that transmission from the pedestals stopped at 3:17 a.m. on Saturday, June 2. Damages were reported to be approximately $1,000.

Passarella told deputies that a second vandalism incident had occurred approximately ¼ mile east of 189 Hood Hollow Road in Five Points. There, Passarella said, someone used an ax to cut an area insert, possibly in an effort to steal copper. Damages there were estimated to be $250.

The fourth incident was reported through the Lawrenceburg Police Department on Monday. Officers were dispatched to Factory Connection, 2002 North Locust Avenue, where employees reported someone had cut telephone wires to the business sometime during the previous weekend. A repairman who was called to reconnect the severed lines told officers it appeared the box had been shot with a shotgun. Damages there said to total $50.
