Subject Tries To Flee From Police

Law enforcement officers dispatched to investigate a death at a Lawrenceburg home this week report that one bystander attempted to flee due to the fact that there were outstanding warrants against him.

Randy Lee Potts, age 21, was arrested at his 508 Fifth Street home in the early hours Tuesday.

Lawrenceburg Police officers report they had been dispatched to investigate a death at the home next door when they noticed Potts standing on the front porch.

The reporting officer indicates that he was familiar with Potts and believed there were active warrants on file for his arrest.

Reports show that the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage about Potts’ person. When confronted, he told the officer that he had been consuming alcohol throughout the evening.

Potts was warned that laws prohibited him from being in public while under the influence of an intoxicant. The officer stressed that he needed to go back inside his residence.

The officer reports that Potts walked back to his home while he awaited confirmation from Lawrence Central Dispatch regarding any outstanding warrants. He reports that Potts went inside then, “…took off out the back door.” He was able to intercept him halfway across the back yard.

Potts was placed under arrest on charges of public intoxication and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center without incident. He was incarcerated in lieu of a $300 bond.

Potts was scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Session Court on August 2, 2013.
