Domestic Incident Culminates In Vehicular Assault

Law enforcement officers intervened Sunday after a domestic dispute at a Leoma residence culminated in an attempted vehicular assault.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department made their way to a Rabbit Trail Road home around 12:15 p.m. where a fifteen year old reported that his mother’s boyfriend, thirty-nine year old Brant William Griggs, had assaulted him. He said that Griggs had left prior to the deputies’ arrival.

The teen and his mother reported that Griggs had come to their home intoxicated, cursing, and being verbally abusive and refused to leave. They said the teen confronted him, wielding a baseball bat at one point in an attempt to defend himself and his mother.

They told deputies that Griggs took the bat from the teen and they began to “scuffle.” The altercation moved outdoors and Griggs got into his car. They said that he attempted to run over them as he left, but that they were able to jump onto the porch, out of the path of the vehicle.

A neighbor who witnessed the incident reported the same scenario.

Griggs was later arrested on charges of domestic assault and reckless endangerment and incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center.
