Summertown Man Pleads Guilty On Sexual Battery Charges

A Summertown man, arrested on child sex abuse charges in 2011, pled guilty to three charges in Lawrence County Circuit Court last Thursday.

Danny John Zell, 38, of 113 Depot Street, Summertown was initially jailed July 22, 2011 on warrants charging him with the crimes of incest, rape of a child, and aggravated sexual battery.

Investigators with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Division made the arrest in the wake of a lengthy investigation involving allegations of child sex abuse.

Thursday, Zell pled guilty to three counts of aggravated sexual battery. Under a plea bargain agreement Zell, who has remained incarcerated since his 2011 arrest, is required to serve ten years incarcerated through the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

Due to the nature of Zell’s convictions he will be required to serve 100% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole consideration. In addition, he will be listed as a lifetime violent sex offender.
