Bats In Tennessee

Press release

Bats in Tennessee will be the subject for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s June Nature @ Noontime program. The program will be held on Thursday, June 6 from noon-1 p.m. at the TWRA Ray Bell Building Region II Building.

Josh Campbell, the TWRA Wildlife Diversity Coordinator for Region II, will be the speaker. Bats are a widely misunderstood animal that eat insects, providing a large benefit to society. There are 16 species of bats in Tennessee.

TWRA’s Wildlife Diversity Division has focus on bats the past two years. Much of the focus has been on monitoring the spread of White-nose Syndrome (WNS). Results from the monitoring will also be discussed.

Campbell has been a part of the TWRA Wildlife Diversity program since 2005. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, he began his TWRA career in 1999 as a technician at Tellico Fish Hatchery.

Hosted by the Information and Education Division, Nature @ Noontime is held the first Thursday of each month. TWRA Nature @ Noontime presentations are about natural resource related topics and last about 30-45 minutes, allowing time for discussion during the allotted lunch hour.
