Parolee Charged With Stealing Credit Card At Probation Office

A Lawrenceburg man free from custody on probation was taken into custody last week on charges of stealing and using a credit card, stolen when he was reporting to his probation officer.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted an investigation into the incident on Sunday. A sixty-one-year-old resident of West High Street, Ethridge, reported her credit card had apparently been stolen from her purse while she was working last week.

The victim told deputies she had been notified of the crime by officials with her credit card company. They telephoned to report several unusual purchases. They reported that “Lamont Williams” and “Daniel Taylor” had signed for the purchases.

The victim indicated that she shares office space with a probation officer, and that a man by the name of Lamont Williams had been in to report, along with two female companions, on May 28. While they were there, she said she had to step away from her desk for a brief time, where she had stored her purse.

Deputies report making contact with Daniel Lamont Williams, 22, at his Torges Street home Sunday. They served outstanding warrants issued through Lewis County and transported him to the  Lawrence County Jail.

When questioned about the fraudulent purchases, deputies report Williams repeatedly denied stealing the card. He told them that he had signed for the purchases, but that he did not know the card was stolen.

Warrants were issued, charging Williams with the crimes of theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. He is slated to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 5.

Deputies report that two female subjects are also under investigation in connection with the crime.
