Officer Seizes Switch Blade From Pedestrian

A law enforcement officer reported he seized a switch blade knife from a pedestrian walking along a Lawrenceburg street in the early hours Tuesday.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department indicate that the officer was on patrol when he noticed the man walking somewhat unsteadily along Buffalo Road, near the Hoover Street intersection.

When he asked the man whether he had “anything in his pockets,” the man replied, “A knife.” The man reportedly pulled a switch blade from his pocket and showed it to the officer. At that point the officer advised the man that it is illegal to possess a switch blade knife.

Although the suspect stated that “someone gave the knife to him,” he was placed under arrest on charges of possession of a prohibited weapon. The suspect, Brian T. Verner, 34, of 228 Flatwoods Drive, is scheduled to answer the charge through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on Friday, July 11, 2008.
