Authorities Delve Into “Doctor Shopping” Incident

Officials with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were called upon to initiate an investigation Wednesday after being informed that an individual was seeing different physicians in order to obtain narcotics.

Officers were called to The Pain Center on Pulaski Street where they spoke with a nurse who had noticed the crime. She indicated that after receiving a hydrocodone prescription from the clinic, they learned that the patient, a male resident of the Savannah area, had gone to another physician in order to obtain a prescription for oxycodone.

The nurse pointed out that the oxycodone prescription had been filled “between visits” to The Pain Center.

The matter is currently under investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
