Tennessee's Free Fishing Day

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency would like to declare June 12, 2010 as free fishing day in Tennessee.

During this day, any person can fish without a fishing license or permits, however all creel limits and size limits will remain in effect. Anglers who fish from a boat are encouraged to review and follow all the safety rules when on the water.

Boat owners need to check all safety equipment and boat registration before going to the lake or river.
Following is a list of three special events in Lawrence County in observance of Free Fishing Day.

  1. Laurel Hill Lake, sponsored by James Ricketts, The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation and other interested individuals and businesses. Persons wishing to help sponsor this event call James Ricketts at 931-762-7200.  Fishing will begin at 5am.

Registration is required by calling 931-762-7200 or going to Laurel Hill Bait Shop before the event or before 9am on the morning or the event.

Lunch will be provided for the children beginning at 10:30am. All size limits and regulations must be observed.

The limits are 5 Catfish per person with a minimum size of 14 inches, 10 bass per person with maximum size of 13 inches and only 1 fish over 18 inches.

Bass are protected between 13 inches and 18 inches, those fish may not be kept. Bluegill (bream, shell crackers) have a limit of 20 per person and no size limit. There is a size limit of 10 inches on crappie and a creel limit of 15 per person.
