Memphis resident reports debit card fraudulently used in Lawrenceburg

A Memphis resident filed a complaint with local law enforcement officers last week after discovering that someone had fraudulently used her debit card to make purchases at a Lawrenceburg business.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department spoke by phone with the thirty-three year old victim. She reported that she had been alerted to the crime on her cell phone.

According to the victim’s statement, she had received a text message, indicating that her Wells Fargo Visa debit card was being used to make purchases totaling $108.71 at the Lawrenceburg Walmart store. She told officers that the person responsible had attempted to make a second purchase at the same store, but that the transaction had been declined.

The victim indicated that she had reported the matter to the Memphis Police Department, but that they had advised her to contact the local department, as well. At the current time the matter remains under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
