Towing Of Vehicle Sparks Fire Near Hayfield

   A vehicle without tires being towed along a Leoma roadway Tuesday is believed to have sparked a fire near a hayfield.

   Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that deputies were dispatched in regards to an individual towing a truck with no tires along Old Jackson Highway.

The action reportedly resulted in sparks being generated and marks being left in the road.

   Deputies report making contract with the driver. While speaking with him, a passerby stopped to inform the deputy that a fire had ignited near a field of freshly cut hay near Lambs Ferry Road.

   Sergeant Melinda Brewer quickly responded to the location and was able to extinguish the fire. Units with the Leoma Fire Department were then dispatched to spray down the area to prevent any further problems.

   The reporting officer noted that the fire, “was caused as a result of sparks coming from the towed vehicle.”
