Charges Issued In Stolen Lawnmowers Case

Criminal charges have been issued against a Leoma man accused of stealing lawnmowers from one man, then fraudulently selling them to another.

Christopher Lee Kennedy, 37, of 2269 Fall River Road was booked in the case through the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges of theft and theft by fraud.

Department reports indicate Roy Jean Fox of Pondfield Road reported to deputies that two push mowers had been stolen from an Old Florence Pulaski Highway property. One mower was a Honda brand while the second was a Craftsman. Together, he reported, the mowers were valued at $400.

While conducting a follow-up investigation, deputies report interviewing Kennedy, who had been identified as a suspect in a string of burglaries and thefts that had occurred in the area.

Reports show that during the interview, Kennedy “did confess to stealing” the lawn mowers “and selling them to…” a Leoma man.

Deputies went to the home of the man who had purchased the mowers. He told them he had purchased both mowers from Kennedy for $40.

Following booking, Kennedy posted a bond of $30,000 and was released from custody. He is scheduled to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 28, 2011. Authorities indicate that Kennedy faces additional charges, as well.
